Meg Pursell, a senior in the Painting program at Tyler, received the Creative Arts and Research grant from the Undergraduate Office of the Vice Provost after submitting a grant proposal. In March 2010, Meg will be creating a project in Shanghai China. The CARAS grant or Creative Arts and Research Grant, which is given to any full time student at Temple University, allowed her to do this. For Tyler students, it is a great opportunity to be able to make work, travel, and experience the process of grant writing. The CARAS grant allocates up to $3,000 for any proposed projects as well as student and faculty stipends. However, because the pool is open to everyone at Temple University, the competition is overwhelming. The deadlines for the CARAS grant are both in the Fall for Spring and Summer projects, and then again in the Spring for Fall and Winter projects. Go to the Undergraduate Office of the Vice Provost to download an Overview and Application for the CARAS grant.
